BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Capital City Development Corporation (CCDC), Boise's urban renewal agency, recently sold a half-acre plot at 14th and Idaho streets to the development company LocalConstruct for almost a million dollars.
The Watercooler building that served as a start-up business incubator at the location, in what's known as the Westside District, is being demolished and the developer is planning a three-story rental apartment complex that would include 37 units with one or two bedrooms.
"It's proposed to have walkup units, and live-work units," said Shellan Rodriguez, who works with property development for CCDC. "and there's surface parking tucked behind a small retail spot for a coffee shop or something along those lines to bring some vibrancy to Idaho Street."
The plan for the Watercooler Apartments (they're keeping that name, by the way) also includes a pocket park for public use. Total development costs are anticipated to be $7 million and the project should be completed in 12 months, developers say.
Development in this part of Boise has been stagnant but CCDC thinks the Watercooler Apartment project will help jump start the stalled Westside of town.
And CCDC says it's an important step in the city's plan to add 1,000 housing units downtown by 2020.
