WASHINGTON (TND) — Reggaeton superstar Bad Bunny has been cast for the lead role in Marvel and Sony's upcoming superhero film.

Expanding the diversity within its universe, Sony has announced "El Muerto", a Spider-Man spin-off film in which the artist will star as Marvel's first Latino lead in a live-action movie.

Set to hit theaters on Jan. 12, 2024, Sony Motion Pictures Group president Sanford Panitch introduced the Bad Bunny — born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio — as the newest Marvel superhero at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

"It's amazing. it's incredible. I love wrestling. I grew up watching it and now I'm a wrestler," Bad Bunny said. "This is why I love this character. I think it's the perfect role to me, it will be epic."

For those who don't know the character,El Muerto — Juan Carlos Estrada Sanchez — is a wrestler whose powers are handed down by his ancestors through a magical mask that grants him super strength and endurance. The aforementioned hero originally fought Spider-Man before the two teamed up to fight El Muetro's archenemy El Dorado.
