BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — The Boise Fire Department's fire station No. 4 was demolished Monday morning, as part of a no-cost bond that was passed in November 2014.
The plan is to build four new fire stations and a training facility in a bond that was approved by 78 percent of the voters. The conditions of the no-cost bond has the city of Boise picking up the check, so taxpayers will not be spending a dime on the renovations.
The demolition began early Monday morning, and fire officials expect crews to break ground for construction in early June.
The new building is expected to be much bigger and will be able to hold more equipment.
"We're going to move a truck company and a battalion chief so we're going to increase the service (out of the new fire station)," said fire chief Dennis Doan.
Fire Station No. 4 has been temporarily located to the old North Ada County Fire Department Station No. 18 in Garden City.
The new station is expected to take about a year to build.
