Mario Lemieux is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was the first overall pick in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, and was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is nicknamed “The Magnificent One,” “Le Magnifique,” and “Super Mario.” He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.

He was born in Montréal, the son of Pierrette, a stay-at-home mother, and Jean-Guy Lemieux, an engineer. He and his older brothers, Alain and Richard, grew up in a working class family in the Ville-Émard district. Mario is married to Nathalie Asselin, with whom he has four children.
