The stage is set for the much-anticipated middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and champion Dricus Du Plessis. The bad blood between both fighters has been pretty severe as they get ready to take on each other this Saturday. However, going into the fight night, the rivalry has taken a rather NSFW turn.
The fight takes place in Perth, Australia, where the crowd is mostly inclined toward Adesanya. Recently, both the fighters held open workouts, which were visited by many fans. During Adesanya’s session, he answered some of the fans’ questions. The one that stood out was when one fan asked Izzy if anyone had fingered Du Plessis.
It was an out-of-pocket question that took Adesanya by surprise as he burst out laughing hysterically. The question was referenced to UFC interim heavyweight Tom Aspinall’s infamous question to MMA content creator Nina Marie Daniele. Back then, Aspinall did receive criticism for his remarks, however, later cleared the air revealing it as a fun question.
Nonetheless, this time Izzy had a witty reply in his arsenal and asked the fan to question the same to DDP’s head coach. Adesanya was impressed by the fan and also offered him two free tickets for UFC 305. It was a sign that the challenger had a great time and was confident going into the fight night.
Israel Adesanya talks about fighting doubters with his ego
Israel Adesanya had one of the most dominant title stints in recent times in the UFC. The Nigerian could hold on to his title after multiple title defenses. During that period, Izzy took on every challenge the promotion threw at him. The success continued until he failed to do so against his arch-nemesis Alex Pereira at UFC 281.
Fans loved Israel Adesanya’s striking, dominant fighting style; however, this has changed in recent times. Following his fights with Pereira and Sean Strickland, the fighter was criticized by many fans and trolls. While this may greatly affect most fighters, for Izzy, it’s just another day at the job. In a recent interview ahead of UFC 305, the ‘Last Stylebender’ addressed his experience with doubts.
A little bit. It's like maybe 20 percent. I have my own ego. I got a big ego but it's a healthy ego and that's normal… I'm gonna show them again.Israel Adesanya via mainevent YouTube channel
Irrespective of the doubts and trolls, Adesanya is still one of the most bankable stars for UFC. On top of it, his ongoing rivalry with Dricus Du Plessis has raised the hype of UFC 305. It will be interesting to see if Izzy manages to get his hands on the middleweight championship for the third time.
